April 2014 Newsletter

Welcome

Building work moves on apace on the arts complex site, as evidenced by the arrival of a remarkably tall and elegant white crane.

And change is also happening within CultureSouthampton. I'm delighted to welcome two new trustees, Michael Ockwell and Lena Samuels, who have joined the Trust this month and I extend our warmest thanks to two founding trustees, Sir John Coles and Pauline Brandt, who are stepping down.

John and Pauline have done sterling work for CultureSouthampton and we're especially grateful to John for his work on the Trust's Fundraising Leadership Group.

Michael and Lena join the Trust in exciting times, and we look forward to benefiting from their advice and experience, Michael as Chief Executive of the Mayflower Theatre, and Lena as a prominent marketing and communications professional.

And while we’re at it, let’s celebrate the vibrant award-winning cultural life of this city – the Nuffield’s enterprising new programme, stunningly successful shows at the Mayflower, music in every part of the city, a wealth of talent in the visual arts and exhibitions of international standing in the City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum and its pavilion, to name a few.

Thank you for supporting CultureSouthampton.

Spotlight on... The Cellar, Southampton

Situated in the heart of the Cultural Quarter, The Cellar has developed a fantastic reputation amongst music lovers, artists, academics, movers & shakers as well as a host of international friends.

Accompanying the music, the Cellar bar serves up Southampton’s biggest range of craft beers and delicious home cooked ‘Street Food’.

The Cellar is a 300 capacity venue which, over their 12 year history, has played host to the likes of Craig Charles, Scouting For Girls, Foals and Professor Green. It is also a great space for dancers, comedians, film makers and screenings.
