Mayflower Writing Commission December 2018

As part of national Mayflower 400 commemorations, 2020 will see the most ambitious programme of cultural and heritage events in Southampton to date. The initial programme launch will take place in January 2019 and as part of the launch Southampton Cultural Development Trust and ArtfulScribe are looking to reward three local writers with paid commissions for new writing.

Using the Mayflower story as context, writers are invited to respond to one of three themes, with particular reference to how these topics are relevant for people living in Southampton today:

  • sea/water
  • light/fire
  • journeys/migration

Writers can submit poetry, prose, fact or fiction. A maximum of 5 minutes in length, to be read at libraries throughout the city in January 2019.

A fee of £300 will be paid to three writers whose work is considered to be reflective of the diverse communities that populate the city.

All entries are to be received no later than Friday 28th December 2018.

Details on how to submit your work can be found here
