'What Next?' for Southampton Fringe

The first Southampton Fringe took place from September 2016 to Jan 2017 and worked with over 260 artists in 33 Southampton venues. British Art Show 8 was our catalyst and the Fringe was seen as an opportunity for increasing engagement in the arts and raising awareness of the talent within the city.

We are now inviting artists, organisers, participants and audiences to share their experiences and thoughts on what happened and how we move forward. What went well, what could have been done better and what should the legacy of Southampton Fringe be?

‘What Next?’ will take place 10 - 5pm on 18 March at The Stage Door, Southampton. Get free ticket here.

10.20 – 10.45 Welcome and Introduction from SCDT Director, James Gough

Part 1 10.45 – 11.30 Evaluating the impact and process of the BAS8 Fringe

What happened, what did we get right, what worked, what didn’t? An exploration of the BAS8 Fringe, with platform discussions Q&A sessions with Associate Artists, commissioners and partner organisations.

  • GROUP 1 Impact on Artists
  • GROUP 2 Impact on Artist led organisations 
  • GROUP 3 Cross-art form impact and engagement
  • GROUP 4 City-wide cultural engagement

11.30 – 12.00 Feedback from Group discussions

12.00 – 12.30 Open Discussion and Overall Feedback

Part 2 13:30-17:00 So what next?

In the afternoon we welcome guest speakers including Plymouth ArtWeekender, Bristol Biennial and Visual Arts South West to talk about their experiences and work. Offering the eyes and experiences of outsiders. Then an Open Space session will allow attenders to discuss with colleagues what they believe are the important topics and opportunities.

What Next? is a chance to share experiences, develop plans for the future and see what needs to happen next to make the most of the BAS8 fringe legacy. To accommodate various schedules we are offering full day tickets as well as tickets for morning and afternoon sessions separately. Lunch will be provided for morning participants only.
